Punjab Agriculture Minister Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal announced on Thursday that the highly anticipated agriculture policy will be officially released on June 30, 2023. Dhaliwal emphasized that the policy is currently being formulated in collaboration with farmers, agricultural experts, farmer leaders, the general public, and various stakeholders.

The comprehensive policy aims to address multiple challenges faced by farmers, offering practical solutions to their issues.

During a lengthy meeting lasting nearly four hours, the minister chaired discussions with a non-political delegation from Samyukt Kisan Morcha to address their diverse demands.

The minister emphasized that a new agricultural policy is being formulated to enhance the farmers' economic prosperity, while also highlighting the state government's ongoing endeavors to resolve various agricultural challenges.

According to an official statement, the Punjab government is actively exploring avenues to export locally-grown vegetables and other crops to neighboring nations.

The minister responded to the farmer leaders' demand for the release of pending payments from the sugar mills, stating that the dues would be promptly disbursed to the sugarcane growers following a meeting with the chief minister.

Furthermore, the minister assured the farmer leaders that the government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann of the AAP party is actively implementing measures to enhance the farmers' economic situation and will fulfill all their valid requests.

During the meeting, various issues, suggestions, and demands were deliberated upon, and Dhaliwal instructed the relevant department officials to address the problems.

The farmer leaders highlighted to the minister that certain family members of farmers who lost their lives during the protests against the previously enacted agricultural laws have not yet been provided with employment opportunities by the government.

In response, Dhaliwal promptly directed the agriculture department's top officials to expedite the proceedings and ensure that qualified family members of farmers receive job opportunities.

A comprehensive deliberation was also conducted on the utilization and preservation of rainwater.
