Govt Plans To Soon Launch A Seed Traceability System

Union Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Shri Narendra Singh Tomar stated that the Government of India, led by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, prioritizes the interests of farmers. In this regard, the Modi government will soon launch the 'Seed Traceability System' to ensure that our farmers have access to high-quality seeds.

Union Minister Shri Tomar made the remarks on 4th March as the chief guest at the National Seed Association of India's two-day Indian Seed Congress in New Delhi.

Farmers will benefit from its launch, and those doing good work in the seed sector will also benefit, according to an official statement released after the event.

"This will reduce pilferage in the seed trade sector," Tomar said, speaking at the National Seed Association of India's two-day Indian Seed Congress in the national capital.

The government is concerned about the difficulties encountered in the seed sector. Stakeholders' suggestions for the seed traceability system have been received, he added.

Tomar stated that everyone involved in the farm sector should be prepared to meet the future needs of India and the world, citing the rising population and the challenge of climate change.

He also urged stakeholders in the seeds sector to help the country become self-sufficient in the production of oilseeds and cotton, thereby reducing imports. According to the statement, he urged the seed industry to develop a roadmap in this regard.

According to Shri Tomar, our agriculture sector is thriving and serves as the economy's backbone. India is the agricultural leader, but in some areas, such as oilseeds and cotton, we are still far from self-sufficiency.

By lowering imports, stakeholders in the seed sector can help the nation become AatmaNirbhar. The seeds industry must create and put into action a roadmap in this approach.
