Government Collaborates with Six States to Launch Digital Crop Survey
A workshop was being conducted to begin a digital crop survey. The main aim was to convey the implementation plan of the digital crop survey, its various benefits, especially for stakeholders, and the responsibilities of the central government.
On 25th May 2023 Centre signed an agreement to begin a digital crop survey with six states which included - Odisha, Assam, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh. The agreement was signed at a workshop that the Union Agriculture Ministry convened so that state governments could discuss the digital crop survey's implementation strategy.
On this occasion, a mobile application and a web portal for digital crop surveys were unveiled.
According to an official announcement, "MoUs were signed between the state governments of Assam, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh and the government of India to move forward with the beginning of the Digital Crop Survey in the states."
The government's Agristack or India Digital Ecosystem for Agriculture (IDEA), which has been in development since 2020, included a digital crop survey.
Agristack and Krishi-Decision Support System (Krishi-DSS), according to agricultural secretary Manoj Ahuja, will address the problems and difficulties the industry is now facing.
The main aim of this workshop was to convey the implementation plan of the digital crop survey, its various benefits, especially for stakeholders, and the responsibilities of the central government.

The conclusions, expectations from states, and support the Centre would offer for an efficient and effective implementation of the digital crop survey were also highlighted during the session.
Additional Secretary of agriculture ministry Pramod Kumar Meherda told that "Clarity will be obtained if the digital crop survey is regulated properly, across all the farmlands in the country during different agriculture seasons."

He also added that "To effectively address the issues listed above, a robust, efficient, on-time, transparent digitally driven crop survey system that makes use of the most recent technological advancements, such as visual and advanced analytics, GIS-GPS technologies, artificial intelligence, and machine learning, is essential.
