The Punjab's district Agriculture Department has announced its intention to conduct a physical examination of machines allocated to farmers through the crop residue management (CRM) scheme on December 1.

Dr. Jatinder Singh Gill, the Chief Agriculture Officer, explained that these machines were distributed to individual farmers, cooperative societies, farmer producer organizations, and gram panchayats as part of the CRM initiative for the 2023-24 period. The initial verification attempt occurred on November 1, but some farmers were unable to present their machines for inspection on that specific date.

This move is part of a broader effort to ensure the effective implementation of the CRM scheme, which focuses on sustainable crop residue management practices. Dr. Gill emphasized that machines play a crucial role in promoting environmental sustainability and enhancing agricultural practices. The district's farmers are encouraged to participate in the upcoming verification process, providing an opportunity for a comprehensive review of the distributed machinery.

Mandeep Singh, an Agriculture Engineer, detailed that the verification process will be carried out by dedicated teams at the block level. To streamline the process, farmers are required to gather at a specified location in the district. This initiative aligns with the government's commitment to transparency in agricultural subsidy programs.

The decision to conduct physical verifications stems from concerns over the misuse of subsidies and ensuring that the intended beneficiaries, namely farmers, receive the necessary support. The government has recently taken stringent actions against any irregularities in the distribution of machines under Central Government projects, reinforcing its commitment to fair and accountable resource allocation.
