The Bihar government has initiated the Krishi Yantra Anudan Yojana 2024, aiming to provide subsidies on 75 different types of agricultural equipment. This scheme, geared towards supporting small and marginal farmers, will commence accepting applications from April 5, 2024.

After the Rabi harvest, farmers typically prepare for the Kharif crops, a process that requires various agricultural machinery and equipment. However, the high prices of such equipment often pose a challenge for small-scale farmers. To alleviate this financial burden and enhance agricultural productivity, the government is offering subsidies on agricultural equipment through the Krishi Yantra Anudan Yojana.

Krishi Yantra Anudan Scheme Details:

Under this scheme, farmers in Bihar can avail themselves of an 80% subsidy on 75 types of agricultural equipment to establish Agricultural Machinery Banks or Custom Hiring Centers. The state government aims to set up 257 custom hiring centres, each costing Rs 10 lakh. Eligible farmers will receive a subsidy of Rs 4 lakh per centre, totalling approximately Rs 1068 lakh in government expenditure. These centres will enable farmers to rent agricultural equipment, thereby reducing their operational costs and enhancing efficiency.

Subsidized Agricultural Equipment:

The subsidy will cover a range of agricultural equipment essential for ploughing, sowing, weeding, irrigation, harvesting, and gardening activities. Additionally, equipment related to residue management, such as the Happy Seeder, Super Seeder, Straw Baler, and Straw Management System, will also receive subsidies.

Subsidy Allocation:

The subsidy percentages range from 40% to 80%, depending on the cost of the agricultural equipment. At least 18% of the allocated funds for each district will be reserved for Extremely Backward Class (EBC) farmers. Furthermore, the government may increase the subsidy rate percentage by 10% for equipment manufactured by Bihar-based agricultural equipment manufacturers. However, the subsidy rate will not exceed 80% of the equipment's cost.
