Good News for Farmers- Get 70% Subsidy on Fish Farming, Apply Now to Avail Major Benefits

To augment farmer income, various government schemes have been introduced, benefiting individuals engaged in farming. The government emphasizes fisheries and beekeeping, believing these domains can supplement agricultural income. 

Financial aid will be extended to those for projects such as pond construction, shed erection, and the installation of bore pump sets. The government will provide up to a 70% subsidy for fisheries. This initiative empowers farmers to engage in fish farming at just 30% of the cost.

Facilitating fish farming, banks also offer easy loans, eliminating financial barriers. Eligible farmers seeking profits through both agriculture and pisciculture can apply for this scheme by August 30, 2023.

Fish Farming Subsidy

The Pond Fisheries Special Assistance Scheme is state-run, designed to benefit farmers. Subsidies encompass pond creation, bore pump set installation, and shed construction, amounting to a total package cost of Rs. 10.10 lakh.

Beneficiaries receive a substantial 70% subsidy, equating to over Rs. 7 lakh, requiring a mere 30% investment from their funds, often obtained through bank loans.

Eligibility and Conditions

The Pond Fisheries Special Assistance Scheme mandates certain eligibility criteria and conditions:-

• The scheme is applicable statewide, catering to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and Extremely Backward Class individuals in Bihar.

• Beneficiaries can receive assistance for pond creation ranging from 0.4 acres (0.5 acres of water area) to a maximum of one acre.

• Selection of beneficiaries occurs through a committee chaired by the Deputy Director of Fisheries.

• Land ownership, either privately owned or leased, is necessary for participation.

• Eligible candidates must not already benefit from the plateau area pond construction scheme, an existing state initiative.

Application Process

Farmers aspiring to avail of fish farming subsidies under the Pond Fisheries Special Assistance Scheme can apply online via the Bihar Fisheries Directorate website (https://fisheries.bihar.gov.in/) until August 30, 2023.

Required Documents

Applicants will need the following documents for the scheme application:-

- Aadhaar card

- Residential certificate

- Proof of land or pond ownership/lease

- Two passport-sized photographs

- Fish farming training certificate

- Affidavit

Leased Land Documents

For those leasing land or ponds, the following additional documents are needed:-

- Affidavit and agreement

- Copy of pond's land records and genealogy

- Lease payment receipt (Form 4)

- Agreement between the fish farmer and Gram Panchayat

- Duplicate proposal for leasing a Gram Panchayat pond
