7 Easy Steps to Grow Healthy Radish in Your
Garden
By - Suneha Mishra
Growing healthy
radishes in the garden involves several key steps to ensure they produce a good crop. Here's
a simple guide to follow
Select a radish variety that suits the climate and taste preferences.
Some radishes are better for cooler weather, while others thrive in warmer conditions.
Choose the Right Variety
Radishes prefer loose, well-draining soil. Amend the garden soil with
compost to improve its structure and fertility. Ensure the pH is between 6.0 and 7.0 for optimal
growth.
Prepare the Soil
Plant radish seeds directly in the garden, as they do not transplant
well. Sow them ½ inch deep and 1 inch apart in rows, with about 12 inches between rows.
Sow Seeds Properly
Water radishes evenly to keep the soil moist but not waterlogged.
Consistent watering is crucial to prevent the roots from becoming woody and too spicy.
Ensure Sufficient Watering
Radishes need plenty of sunlight, so plant them in a spot where they
will receive atleast six hours of direct sunlight each day.
Provide Sunlight
Once the seedlings are a few inches tall, thin them so they stand 2 to
3 inches apart. This gives the roots enough space to grow to full size.
Thin Seedlings
Radishes mature quickly, usually in 3-4 weeks after planting. Harvest
them when they are of usable size and before they become too large and pithy.
