Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar Speaks At The Indian Agricultural Research Institute's Convocation Ceremony
VP Dhankhar emphasized in his speech that agricultural education should become the focus of research, innovation, and entrepreneurship for the country's progress.
The Vice President of India, Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar, was the Chief Guest at the 61st Convocation ceremony of the Indian Agricultural Research Institute's (IARI) Post-Graduate School in New Delhi on 24 February 2023. The ceremony was presided over by Union Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Shri Narendra Singh Tomar, with special guest Shri Kailash Choudhary, Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare.
VP Dhankhar emphasized in his speech that agricultural education should become the focus of research, innovation, and entrepreneurship for the country's progress.
VP Shri Dhankhar acknowledged the tremendous contribution of the 'Annadata' to the overall progress of the nation, accentuating that agriculture is the backbone of India's economy. He praised the country's agricultural sector for its dedication to ensuring food security for over 800 million people despite the world being in the grip of a pandemic.
Furthermore, the Vice President underscored India's efforts to designate 2023 as the International Year of Millets and its significance for the global agriculture sector. About the growing use of cutting-edge technology in agriculture, such as drones, he stated that technology is transforming the sector as the times change.
Vice President Dhankhar discussed the steps taken to improve the farm sector. In his address, he stated that over 11 crore farmers have received 2.20 lakh crore under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi initiative.
During the convocation ceremony, Vice President Shri Dhankhar, along with Shri Tomar and Shri Choudhary, presented medals and prizes to deserving students. The Vice President also introduced 16 new cereals, fruits, and vegetables.
