As Holi, the vibrant Hindu festival, approaches, the Uttar Pradesh government has announced a heartwarming 'Holi Gift' for women residing in Noida, Greater Noida, and Ghaziabad. This generous gesture entails the distribution of free LPG cylinders to underprivileged women, aiming to reduce their financial burdens and increase the spirit of celebration during this festive season.

Under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, the government has allocated a substantial amount of Rs 2,312 crore for the current financial year (2023-24). This initiative is part of a broader effort to provide support to 1.75 crore beneficiaries across the state. As per the scheme's provisions, each beneficiary is entitled to receive two free cylinder refills annually. The distribution of the first cylinder coincided with Diwali festivities, while the forthcoming Holi celebrations marked the provision of the second complimentary cylinder.

Since its launch on November 10, 2023, the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana has made significant growth in enhancing the lives of millions of individuals. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, in a symbolic act of empowerment, initiated the scheme by promptly transferring subsidy amounts to the accounts of numerous Ujjwala beneficiaries. This proactive approach reflects the government's unwavering commitment to prioritizing the welfare of its citizens, particularly women from economically disadvantaged backgrounds.

The distribution process has been executed in phases, with remarkable progress witnessed in both phases. In the initial phase, spanning from November 1 to February 15, a staggering 80.30 lakh beneficiaries received cylinder refills. Subsequently, during the ongoing second phase from January 1 to date, an additional 50.87 lakh cylinder refills have been dispensed. This concerted effort underscores the government's dedication to ensuring the implementation of welfare schemes, thereby uplifting marginalized sections of society.

This gesture assumes greater significance against the backdrop of recent developments in LPG pricing. Following Prime Minister Modi's announcement of a Rs 100 reduction in cooking gas prices on International Women's Day, public sector oil marketing companies promptly adjusted the prices of LPG cylinders. Consequently, the price of a 14.2-kg domestic LPG cylinder stands at Rs 803 in Delhi, Rs 802.50 in Mumbai, Rs 818.50 in Chennai, and Rs 829 in Kolkata, reflecting a tangible relief for consumers.

As the nation gears up for the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections 2024, the Uttar Pradesh government's proactive measures serve as a example of its commitment to citizen welfare and development. By extending this thoughtful 'Holi Gift' to women in Noida, Greater Noida, and Ghaziabad, the government not only celebrates the spirit of Holi but also encourages prosperity and equality across communities.
