The Uttar Pradesh government is stepping up efforts to cover the maximum number of farmers under the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana (PMKSNY), a prestigious scheme for small and marginal farmers. The scheme provides an annual grant of Rs 6,000 to eligible farmers.

Around 20% of the total farmers registered under the scheme in UP have failed to get their documents validated by the state government. This has deprived them of the benefits of the scheme.

The state government has now launched a fresh drive to cover the maximum number of eligible farmers under the scheme by October 15. The agriculture department has initiated several measures, including conducting door-to-door surveys and setting up helpdesks at state agricultural seed centers.

According to Uttar Pradesh's Agriculture Minister, Surya Pratap Shahi, out of more than 2.6 crore farmers enrolled in the scheme, only 2.05 crore have completed the verification process for their bank accounts and Aadhaar cards. The remaining farmers either haven't provided the necessary documentation or face discrepancies in their Aadhaar cards and land ownership records.

The government has therefore directed the officials to set up a mechanism for farmers' e-KYC and Aadhaar seeding. The farmers whose land records have not been attested will be required to do so from the tehsil level. The agriculture department is also deploying its officials at the various common service centers to complete the e-KYC of the farmers.

Furthermore, authorities have been instructed to carry out a thorough survey to verify eligible farmers. This initiative could also be extended through village-level gatherings and 'Kisan Pathshalas,' as mentioned by officials.

The government's efforts to cover the maximum number of farmers under the PMKSNY scheme is a welcome step. The scheme will provide much-needed financial assistance to small and marginal farmers in UP.
