UP CM Yogi Adityanath: Farmers' Interest Must Be Protected
During a high-level meeting, Adityanath took charge and instructed officials to ensure timely compensation for the farmers affected by the unseasonal rainfall. According to a statement, he emphasized that there should be no delays in providing relief to the impacted farmers.
On Saturday, while presiding over a review meeting regarding the harm caused to crops due to unexpected rain and hailstorms, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath stated that safeguarding the welfare of farmers is the topmost priority of the Uttar Pradesh government.
During a high-level meeting, Adityanath took charge and instructed officials to ensure timely compensation for the farmers affected by the unseasonal rainfall. According to a statement, he emphasized that there should be no delays in providing relief to the impacted farmers.
The untimely rain and hailstorms in many regions in March have caused significant harm to farmers and their crops. Additionally, in the last 24 hours, there have been reports of hailstorms in nine districts, further worsening the situation. Adityanath assured the farmers that the state government would support them during this difficult time.
While reviewing a presentation by the Revenue department, the chief minister stated that “safeguarding the interests of the farmers, also known as 'annadata', is the government's top priority.”
He directed the officials to ensure all necessary measures are taken to provide timely compensation to the farmers under the relief commissioner's office regulations after assessing the extent of damage to their crops.
Additionally, he instructed the officials to promptly share weather forecast information with the farmers.
Adityanath has suggested that meteorological warnings be disseminated to farmers residing in remote villages through various mediums such as television, newspapers, and local authorities.
The forecast should remain valid for 24-48 hours. Adityanath believes that alerting people beforehand can reduce the extent of damage caused. He further added that natural factors like rain, strong winds, and hailstorms can harm crops like wheat and negatively affect their quality.
To address this issue, Adityanath has instructed that such crops must be purchased under the minimum support price mechanism. He has also directed the preparation of necessary proposals to ease regulations as required.
Adityanath also mentioned the likelihood of a straw shortage this year because of a possible loss of the wheat crop. He urged the Animal Husbandry department to make timely arrangements for cattle fodder in case of such an eventuality.
