Unseasonal Rains Cause Heavy Damage To Crops in Telangana, Farmers in Distress
Around 30,000 metric tonnes of paddy have been affected by the rain, according to the District Manager of Civil Supplies Corporation (CSC) Sama Jaganmohan Rao. The corporation has assured farmers that the damaged paddy stocks will be purchased once permission is granted by higher officials.
Heavy rains and hailstorms have caused widespread damage to crops across Nizamabad, Suryapet, and Adilabad districts over the last two days. In Nizamabad, all 29 mandals have been affected by the rain, with standing crops on 3,500 acres already damaged before Tuesday.
Farmers are facing difficulties as the paddy they brought to procurement centres became soaked in rainwater. Similarly, in Suryapet district, horticulture crops grown on 5,000 acres and paddy cultivated on over 25,000 acres have been affected.
The highest rainfall was recorded in Indalwai mandal, with 36.8 mm of rain, followed by Bheemgal at 27.9 mm, Kammarpally at 21.8 mm, Morthad at 31 mm, and Jakranpally at 25.9 mm. The heavy rainfall and wind have made it difficult for tarpaulins to protect paddy from getting wet at procurement centres.

Officials are assessing the crop damage caused by rain in the last 24 hours.
District Agricultural Officer (DAO) Thirupala Prasad has reported that the standing crops on 3,500 acres in the Nizamabad district have been damaged before Tuesday. Officials are working to determine the extent of damage caused by the rain and hailstorms in Suryapet district, where over 25,000 acres of paddy have been affected.
The heavy rains and hailstorms are a cause of concern for farmers in the area who rely heavily on agriculture for their livelihoods. The damaged crops will not only impact their income but also the availability and prices of essential commodities in the market.
The government must take prompt action to provide support to the affected farmers and ensure that the damaged crops are purchased at reasonable prices. Additionally, measures must be taken to prevent such incidents in the future, including building infrastructure to protect crops from damage caused by rain and hailstorms.
