Union Minister Nitin Gadkari Advocates Economic Transformation for Farmers at 'Millionaire Farmer of India Awards 2023' Day 1

In a much-anticipated event, Union Minister of Road Transport and Highway, Nitin Gadkari, graced the Millionaire Farmer of India Awards, emphasizing the need to recognize and transform the economic conditions of farmers in the country. The event, organized by Krishi Jagran, celebrated the achievements of farmers and shed light on the challenges they face.

Addressing the issue of migration from villages due to economic conditions, Gadkari pointed out the imbalance in the pricing of agricultural products. He highlighted disparities such as the low price of cotton contrasted with the high cost of cloth, cheap tomatoes versus expensive ketchup, and affordable fruits compared to expensive fruit juices.

Gadkari also touched upon the global perspective of agricultural produce, noting the surplus of sugar, wheat, rice, and corn while highlighting the need to import oil. He stressed the importance of managing the demand and supply dynamics on a global scale.

Sharing personal examples, Gadkari commended his wife for receiving an award for growing 11 quintals of soybeans in 1 acre, comparing it to the higher yields in countries like the United States, Argentina, and Brazil. He underscored the need for efficient management of crops and resources to enhance productivity.

Drawing attention to the rising costs in agriculture, Gadkari urged farmers to reduce per-acre expenditures, citing the increased prices of fertilizers and cement in contrast to stagnant prices for wheat and rice.

With seven degrees, including four in agricultural science, Gadkari expressed his passion for diversifying agriculture towards power and supply. He concluded the session by presenting awards to the Millionaire Farmers of India, encouraging a shift from traditional crops like wheat, rice, and sugarcane towards more lucrative alternatives.

The Millionaire Farmer of India Awards not only celebrated the achievements of farmers but also served as a platform for policymakers like Nitin Gadkari to advocate for comprehensive reforms to uplift the agricultural sector and improve the livelihoods of those working tirelessly to feed the nation.
