Union Agriculture Minister Attends Rani Lakshmi Bai Central Agricultural University's Convocation Ceremony
Tomar praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi's efforts to declare 2023 the International Year of Millets and urged the region to prioritize jowar and bajra cultivation.
Rani Laxmibai Central Agricultural University's second convocation ceremony took place here on Saturday. Narendra Singh Tomar, the principal guest, and the Union Agriculture Minister said, "The focus in our nation is on agriculture. It was long believed that only people with irrigation facilities could engage in farming, but in the rapidly evolving world of today, farming has turned more and more towards technology and scientific inquiry."
Agriculture students, he believes, have an important role to play in raising farmer awareness of the latest technology and research that will help them increase their income.
According to the minister, the Bundelkhand region, which was once known for drought and migration of people to other places, has developed tremendously in the field of agriculture. "This area should become a hub for fruit and vegetable cultivation and natural farming," he said. He has asked the students to explore new farming avenues while taking climatic changes and population growth into account, with a vision of farm production lasting until 2050.
Tomar praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi's efforts to declare 2023 the International Year of Millets and urged the region to prioritize jowar and bajra cultivation. The minister expressed his delight that fourteen of the sixteen students who received gold medals are female. On this occasion, he conferred degrees on 213 students for the academic year 2019-22. He also dedicated a new boys' and girls' hostel as well as an auditorium.
Previously, the university's vice-chancellor, Ashok Kumar Singh, stated that 500 students from 23 different states are studying at the university, while faculty from 14 different states are teaching the students. He predicted that by 2030, the university's student body would have grown to 3000 students.
Dr. Panjab Singh, Chancellor of the Rani Lakshmi Bai Central Agricultural University, Secretary of DARE, and Dr. Himanshu Pathak, Director General of ICAR, were among the dignitaries present at the Convocation. The ceremony was also attended by Vice Chancellor Dr. Ashok Kumar Singh, all Directors and founders, teachers and scientists, students, farmers, and local public representatives.
