Tripura Adopts Israeli Agricultural Technology to Boost Productivity and Exports
The state is also investing in the soilless production of seeds and saplings, a practice that offers multiple benefits. Seeds and saplings produced using this method are less susceptible to diseases, infections, and insect threats compared to traditional soil-based cultivation. Furthermore, the yield from this approach is significantly higher.
The state of Tripura is set to harness Israeli agricultural technology to enhance agricultural productivity and bring about a significant transformation in the agricultural sector, according to Tripura's Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister, Ratan Lal Nath.
Speaking during the inauguration of the Center of Excellence for Vegetables at Birchandra Manu in South Tripura District, Minister Nath expressed his optimism regarding the positive impact of the technology transfer. He explained that the center was established to provide farmers with training on the latest technological advancements in agriculture, particularly those developed by Israel. Tripura's agricultural scientists have adapted and modified this technology to suit the agro-climatic conditions of the state, ensuring optimum results.
Minister Nath emphasized that South Tripura, Sepahijala, and Gomati districts are already self-sufficient in agriculture, producing ample vegetables and food grains to meet local demand. With the implementation of advanced agricultural practices, he anticipates the potential for export, signaling a promising future for Tripura's agricultural sector.

To support local farmers, the government plans to make these high-yielding variety seeds available at subsidized rates. In the initial phase, farmers will be able to access the saplings at a flat rate of Rs 2 per piece.
Looking ahead, Minister Nath disclosed that the state's agricultural department has set a target to establish more Centers of Excellence for various crops. These centers will focus on crops such as scented lemons, bananas, and tomatoes, among others, across different areas of the state. The aim is to promote scientific agriculture uniformly throughout Tripura, capitalizing on the synergy between cutting-edge technology and the hard work of local farmers.
By adopting Israeli agricultural technology and fostering a harmonious relationship between tradition and innovation, Tripura is poised to revolutionize its agricultural sector, setting the stage for increased productivity and a brighter economic future for its farming communities.
