In a virtual inauguration ceremony, Tomar unveiled seven honey testing labs and processing units in five states, emphasizing the government's commitment to promoting the honey industry.
The official statement highlighted that both the central and state governments are actively collaborating to enhance the quality of domestic honey and enable its entry into the international market. Efforts are being made to enhance the capacity of beekeepers through the adoption of scientific techniques for honey production.
Minister of State for Agriculture, Kailash Choudhary, highlighted that the government has provided necessary resources and new technologies to farmers through various schemes dedicated to beekeeping. He further stated that promoting beekeeping is a mission for the government, aiming to increase farmers' income.
Gujarat Agriculture Minister Raghavji Patel encouraged farmers in the state to adopt scientific beekeeping practices, which can significantly contribute to their income generation.
The honey testing labs and processing units were inaugurated in Pulwama, Bandipur, and Jammu in Jammu and Kashmir, Tumkur in Karnataka, Saharanpur in Uttar Pradesh, Pune in Maharashtra, and Uttarakhand. These facilities are essential for ensuring the quality of honey and facilitating its processing, thereby attracting the global market.
The centrally funded scheme, called the "National Beekeeping and Honey Mission," aims to establish five large regional and 100 small honey testing laboratories, along with other bee product testing facilities. As part of this initiative, three state-of-the-art laboratories have already been established, and an additional 25 small laboratories are currently in the process of being set up.
