Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar on Tuesday emphasized the importance of making Indian agriculture profitable to attract young farmers, as well as the need to increase the income of small and marginal farmers. Speaking at a CII conference, the minister emphasized the importance of introducing new technologies, R&D (research and development), and industry support to make Indian agriculture profitable, increase farmer income, and strengthen the agriculture economy.
He cited the Modi government's efforts over the last nine years to grow the agriculture sector, including the establishment of 10,000 Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) and a Rs 1 lakh crore agri infrastructure fund. "Agriculture is a priority sector for all of us," Tomar said.
However, to make the agriculture sector profitable, increase farmer prosperity, and strengthen the agriculture economy, the minister stated that it requires the support of technologies, research, and industry.
Tomar emphasized making Indian agriculture profitable to attract youth in this sector. Farmers, he said, should have affordable access to all inputs such as seeds and fertilizers, as well as market connections to sell their produce.
