Telangana Observes Rapid Growth in Agriculture Exports

The Gross State Value Added by the agriculture and allied sectors has rapidly increased by an amazing 186 per cent from 2014-15 to 2022-23 in Telangana.

On Monday, the Agriculture, Forestry, Livestock, and Fisheries sectors’ GSV added to the State economy has also seen a composite annual growth rate of 14.05 per cent from Rs 76,123 crore in 2014-15 to Rs 2,17,877 crore in 2022-23, according to the Socio-Economic Outlook 2023, released by Finance Minister T Harish Rao.

Telangana has made significant improvements in the agriculture sector by embracing innovative methods, increasing technology, and offering financial support to farmers.

Reports suggest that the State has notable agricultural produce in maize, rice, lemon, grapes, mango, and soybean, and has the highest production of turmeric and sweet orange.

Telangana has emerged as the top donor to the total Foreign Direct Investment inflows in the agriculture service sector of India with a share of 26.32 percent between October 2019 and September 2021, as per the Socio-Economic Outlook 2022.

Agricultural exports are expected to play an essential role in increasing the farmers’ income and their agricultural production to the export market is an important step. The Telangana government has been attempting all possible linkages to the export markets to acquire this.

Accordingly, During 2021-22 the exports from agriculture and allied sectors in Telangana, accounted for a huge Rs 6,737 crore, indicating the rapid growth in Telangana. Among the exports, cereals, spices, meat, and cotton are the top products in the State.

Spices, coffee, tea, and mate accounted for Rs 1,936 crore while cotton exports were worth Rs 3,055 crore. This was followed by meat and edible meat offal exports at Rs 268 crore along with cereals at Rs 1,480 crore.
