Telangana Government Allocates Rs 7,720 Crore to Benefit 70 Lakh Farmers through Rythu Bandhu Scheme

In a significant move to support farmers and boost agricultural productivity, the Telangana state government has disbursed a staggering amount of Rs 7,720.29 crore under the 11th edition of the Rythu Bandhu scheme. The funds, aimed at assisting farmers for the Vanakalam season of 2023-24, will be deposited directly into the bank accounts of approximately 70 lakh beneficiaries, starting from Monday.

With this latest tranche, the total amount contributed by the Rythu Bandhu scheme to farmers' accounts reaches an impressive sum of Rs 72,910 crore. This financial aid is a testament to the government's unwavering commitment to the welfare and prosperity of farmers in the state.

The scheme's expansion in the current year includes the addition of 5 lakh new beneficiaries, among which 1.5 lakh are Podu farmers who own 4 lakh acres of Podu lands. This increase in coverage will place an additional burden of around Rs 300 crore on the government compared to previous disbursements, showcasing its determination to support a broader spectrum of farmers.

Agriculture Minister S Niranjan Reddy, in a statement, advised first-time beneficiaries of the Rythu Bandhu scheme to contact local Agriculture officials and provide their bank account details to ensure a seamless disbursement process. The distribution of funds will continue to be carried out based on acreage, ensuring that assistance reaches farmers according to their land holdings.

Telangana remains the only state in the country to provide a generous aid of Rs 10,000 per acre, twice a year, under the Rythu Bandhu scheme. This unparalleled commitment to farmers is complemented by other initiatives, including Rythu Bima (crop insurance), uninterrupted access to quality and free electricity, and consistent water supply for irrigation purposes.

The state's remarkable success in the agricultural sector can be attributed to the completion of pending projects and the availability of irrigation water, thanks to the Kaleshwaram project. This has resulted in increased cultivation and a notable surge in paddy production. In fact, neighboring states now rely on Telangana for their rice supplies, reflecting the effectiveness of the state's agricultural policies.

Agriculture Minister S Niranjan Reddy emphasized that Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao remains resolute in his commitment to farmers' welfare, even in the face of challenges. The government's dedication to supporting farmers and fostering the growth of the agricultural sector underscores its vision for a prosperous and sustainable farming community in Telangana.
