The agriculture sector in Telangana has shown promising growth as the state witnessed an increase of almost 40% in agriculture exports between 2020 and 2022. The exports which were valued at Rs 6,337 crore in 2020-21, significantly rose to around Rs 10,000 crore in 2021-22, indicating the state government's positive efforts toward promoting agriculture.

As per the recently released data by the central government, Telangana and Maharashtra are the two states that have exhibited noteworthy expansion in agriculture exports. Over the past five years, from 2017-18 to 2021-22, agriculture exports in Telangana have doubled from Rs 5,000 crore to Rs 10,000 crore.

Telangana has experienced a boost in its exports of cotton, spices, cereals, and meat, which is attributed to the adoption of innovative techniques such as increased utilization of technology and the implementation of cold storage facilities. These measures have resulted in an overall improvement in the state's export industry.

Kotha Bhaskar Reddy, an exporter of fruits from Nizamabad, stated that the significant growth of the sector, despite Telangana's lack of coastline, clearly demonstrates the positive impact of improved infrastructure.

According to the data, the total value of cotton exports for the year 2021-22 was Rs 3,055 crore, whereas spices, coffee, and tea collectively made up Rs 1,936 crore. The export of cereals contributed Rs 1,480 crore, and meat exports accounted for Rs 268 crore. Additionally, the state exports other commodities like rice, maize, lemon, grapes, mango, and soybean.

According to data from the state, Telangana has a significant share of total foreign direct investment inflows in the agriculture sector in the country. The state has attracted approximately Rs 3,000 crore of FDI between 2019 and 2021.
