The Indian government has declared that the third meeting of the G20 Tourism Working Group will take place in Srinagar from May 22 to 24. The agenda of the meeting will revolve around the 'GOA Roadmap for Tourism,' aiming to promote sustainable development goals through discussions and deliberations.

Whereas, China has declared the region of Jammu and Kashmir as a "disputed territory" and stated that it will not be present at the upcoming G20 Tourism Working Group gathering in Srinagar. Wang Wenbin, the spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, expressed China's strong objection to holding any form of G20 meetings in disputed regions, emphasizing their non-participation in such events. Pakistan has also criticized the meeting, labeling it as 'irresponsible'.

Arvind Singh, the Secretary of the Tourism Ministry, mentioned that out of the anticipated 60 participating countries, three have not registered yet, despite the approaching deadline of May 22.

Singh explained that these meetings will provide an opportunity for invitees to offer valuable insights and feedback on two draft documents: the 'GOA Roadmap for Tourism' and the G20 Tourism Ministers’ Declaration.' Following negotiations with G20 Member Countries, the final versions of these documents will be presented in the fourth meeting of the Tourism Working Group.

He mentioned that the Tourism Working Group is currently focusing on five key areas: green tourism, digitization, skills development, support for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), and destination tourism.

These areas are interconnected and aim to facilitate the transition of the tourism sector while contributing to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030. Additionally, they will be introducing a preliminary version of the 'National Strategy on Film Tourism.'

In Srinagar, delegates will have the opportunity to experience a serene Shikara ride on Dal Lake and enjoy cultural performances along its banks. Participants will have the opportunity to explore local handicrafts, enjoy a lunch hosted by the Mayor of Srinagar, and attend a dinner hosted by the Lt. Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Manoj Sinha.
