SKUAST Hosts Seed Mela To Support Kashmir’s Agriculture Sector

The exhibition cum seed mela's goal was to educate farmers and growers about the latest seed varieties of paddy, fruits, vegetables, and flowers using cutting-edge technology. Thousands of people attended the exhibition, particularly farmers and growers.

A massive exhibition cum seed mela was held at Kashmir’s Shalimar University. The Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology hosted it (SKUAST).

This year's annual mega event at Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir was held on March 04-05. The theme of the 8th Technology Exhibition and Seed Sale Mela will be 'Subsistence to Sustainable Commercial Agriculture'.

The exhibition's goal was to educate farmers and growers about the latest seed varieties of paddy, fruits, vegetables, and flowers using cutting-edge technology. Thousands of people attended the exhibition, particularly farmers and growers.

Departments of Agriculture, Horticulture, Floriculture, Fisheries, and others set up stalls with new seed varieties. Visitors were able to purchase various types of seed material for paddy, vegetables, flowers, and fruits at reasonable prices.

Agriculture and other departments such as Horticulture, Floriculture, Sericulture, and Sheep animal husbandry are the valley's economic backbones. The majority of people work in these industries, either directly or indirectly.

As a result, visitors demanded that authorities continue such activities to promote the agriculture sector.

SKUAST-K has been working towards the betterment of the region's farming community since its inception and has continuously engaged with various stakeholders with the ultimate goal of disseminating various technologies and interventions to the ultimate end users.

Every year, different constituent units of SKUAST-Kashmir, including KVKs spread across Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh, hold Kisan Melas at the district level to further the cause of the farming community.

The annual Technology Exhibition and Seed Sale Mela is a national event in which farmers, students, youths, entrepreneurs, farm women, private players, input dealers, policymakers, and planners from various departments, institutions, and agencies from across the country participate.
