In a bold move, the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) has declared plans to organize a tractor parade on Republic Day in approximately 500 districts across the country. According to an official statement released on December 28, the tractor parade will take place following the conclusion of the formal Republic Day parade in the national capital.

The SKM expressed its anticipation for the event to span at least 500 districts, urging farmers nationwide to participate in large numbers. Notably, the parade will feature farmers flying the national flag alongside flags representing various constituent organizations. Participants will also take a solemn pledge to safeguard the democratic, federal, secular, and socialist principles enshrined in the Constitution of India.

In a departure from traditional protests, tractors, vehicles, and motorcycles are set to join the parade, creating a dynamic display of unity and purpose. The SKM aims to underscore its commitment to democratic values while emphasizing the collective strength of the farming community.

The campaign's primary objective is to expose what the SKM describes as the "pro-corporate economic policies" implemented by the central government.

Emphasizing the gravity of their demands, the SKM declares an unwavering commitment to intensify the struggle until all their grievances are addressed by the union government. This announcement follows the events of January 26, 2021, when thousands of protesting farmers clashed with the police during a tractor rally. The farmers were demanding the repeal of the Centre's three contentious farm laws.

The 2024 Republic Day tractor parade is poised to be a significant chapter in the ongoing farmers' protest, symbolizing a continued push for justice, equity, and the protection of farmers' rights in India.
