Samyukt Kisan Morcha Declare Mass Protests From Aug 1-15 All Across India

From August 1 to 15, mass protests will be held in coordination with workers unions and organizations to end the sale of farmers' and workers' interests to corporations by the Centre. From September to mid-November, nationwide yatras will be held.

The Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM), a coalition of various farmer unions, has announced a series of nationwide protests from August 1 to August 15, calling for legal protection of minimum support price, farmers’ pension, and a comprehensive crop insurance scheme. The decision was made during the national meeting of the SKM, which was attended by over 200 farmer leaders from constituent organizations.

To organize and mobilize farmers and farm workers, state and district-level SKM conventions will be held in every state and union territory between May and July. From May 26 to May 31, agitations will be held in all states and union territories over core demands, including minimum support price law, debt liberation, farmer and farm workers' pension, and a comprehensive crop insurance scheme.

During the agitations, large protest marches will be led to the homes of Members of Parliament and key political leaders in their constituencies, and memoranda will be submitted to their warning of further protests if farmers' demands are not met.

From August 1 to 15, mass protests will be held in coordination with workers unions and organizations to end the sale of farmers' and workers' interests to corporations by the Centre. From September to mid-November, nationwide yatras will be held, led by national leaders of the SKM, with a particular focus on states holding assembly elections such as Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, and Telangana.

The SKM also announced ‘India Shaheedi Diwas’ on October 3, the day eight people, including four farmers, were killed in 2021. On November 26, ‘Vijay Diwas’ will be celebrated by holding a day-night dharna for at least three days in all state capitals, marking the day the historic Dilli Chalo march of farmers reached the borders of Delhi.

The SKM expressed solidarity with women wrestlers protesting against the WFI chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh and lent its support to former Jammu and Kashmir governor Satya Pal Malik, who has been a supporter of farmers.
