Amid recent updates, Adani Agri Fresh Limited has taken proactive steps to address the worries voiced by apple growers, resulting in favorable changes to their apple procurement pricing strategy.

Engaging in discussions with the farmers, the company has reevaluated and revised its pricing structure in a manner that benefits the cultivators.

The newly enhanced pricing framework is designed to incentivize growers further for their produce. The updated rates now span a range of Rs 25 per kg to Rs 105 per kg, the values reflecting the quality of the apples. This shift marks a significant rise from the earlier spectrum of Rs 20 per kg to Rs 95 per kg.

Particularly, premium apples with 80 to 100 % color will receive a Rs 10 per kg increase across large, medium, and small sizes. In the premium category, the price of Pitu apples has been raised by Rs 1, from Rs 65 to Rs 66 per kg.

Despite this positive step, the Sanyukt Kisan Manch expresses reservations, asserting that the current market rates still surpass the revised prices offered by Adani Agri Fresh and other private apple procurement companies.

Sanjay Chauhan, co-convener of the Sanyukt Kisan Manch, emphasized the need for fair pricing. The organization aims to engage with the government and advocate for a collaborative solution. Chauhan proposes the formation of a committee comprising experts from the horticulture, economics, and agriculture departments to establish transparent terms and conditions for apple procurement.

Chauhan further emphasized that companies should adhere to the principles of the Competition Act, of 2002, to avoid excessive profits that could potentially harm other stakeholders. While some improvements have been made, the Sanyukt Kisan Manch highlighted that the increase of just Rs 1 per kg for Pittu apples could pose challenges for growers in that category.

As discussions continue, the importance of balancing growers' interests with market dynamics remains a critical aspect of ensuring sustainable and fair practices in apple procurement.
