The Rajasthan government has approved a proposal to allocate Rs 444.40 crore to provide barbed wire fencing to one lakh farmers in order to protect their crops from stray animals. The decision was announced in an official statement released on Saturday.

The Chief Minister of Rajasthan, Ashok Gehlot, has approved the plan to construct 40 million meters of barbed wire fencing and recommended reducing the minimum fence limit to 0.50 hectares to accommodate farmers from Scheduled Tribe communities who own smaller land holdings.

In order to increase community engagement in fencing, grants will be provided. The cost of fencing is estimated to be around Rs 444.40 crore during the fiscal year 2023-24. The Farmers Welfare Fund will provide Rs 391 crore towards the cost, while the state plan 'Grant for crop protection through wire fencing' will contribute Rs 25 crore. The remaining amount of Rs 28.40 crore will be spent on the National Food Security Mission.

It is important to note that the Rajasthan Crop Protection Mission will continue to provide grants for wire fencing, as announced in the 2023-24 budget by Chief Minister Gehlot. The initiative is aimed at protecting crops from damage by stray animals and is expected to benefit a large number of farmers in the state.

The move is likely to have a positive impact on the agricultural sector in the state, as it will provide farmers with the necessary support to safeguard their crops from damage.

Additionally, it will help in addressing the issue of crop damage caused by stray animals, which has been a major concern for farmers in the region. Overall, the move is expected to contribute to the growth of the agricultural sector in the state and improve the livelihoods of farmers.
