Punjab's Agriculture Minister, Gurmeet Singh Khudian, has urged farmers to take advantage of subsidies on various agricultural machines under the Sub-Mission on Agricultural Mechanization (SMAM) scheme. The goal of the initiative is to promote diversification and mechanization in agriculture, ultimately boosting farmers' income. Interested farmers have until July 20 to apply for the scheme.

Khudian emphasized the convenience of the online application process. Farmers in Punjab can apply for subsidies on equipment such as paddy transplanters, direct seeded rice drills, automatic/semi-automatic potato planters, tractor-operated boom sprayers, PTO-operated bund formers, oil mills, mini processing plants, and nursery seeders through the dedicated portal, 'agrimachinerypb.com.'

For further information, farmers are encouraged to contact the toll-free helpline at 1800-180-1551 or visit their respective district agriculture offices, where officials will provide detailed guidance.

Khudian highlighted the cost-effectiveness of mechanization, explaining that it not only increases farmers' income but also promotes water-saving techniques, crop diversification, and the growth of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in the agricultural sector. The minister directed officials to ensure transparency throughout the entire application and subsidy allocation process.
