On Friday, Dr. Balbir Singh, the Health and Family Welfare Minister of Punjab, visited the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) to engage in discussions with the extension scientists of the Skill Development Centre.

A meeting was conducted to enhance the knowledge and skills of rural youths in agriculture and related fields, to guide them towards a productive path, and prevent them from deviating from it.

During the interaction, Singh expressed his worries regarding the increasing rates of unemployment and drug addiction among youths, which has had adverse effects on both their health and families.

Further, Dr. Balbir Singh said, "During a time when the entire nation was struggling with food insecurity, the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) and state farmers worked tirelessly to ensure the nation's food security. Now, as young people need support to break free from harmful habits and behaviors, the PAU has the potential to lead the way in shaping their future careers. Specifically, the skill development center can play a crucial role in improving their lives by enhancing their abilities in various occupations, such as agro-processing and value addition, mushroom cultivation, beekeeping, gardening, and cooking."

Kuldeep Singh, the associate director of Skill Development, has stated that the youths are receiving consistent vocational, short-term, and in-service training to equip them with the necessary skills to establish their startups and secure their livelihoods.
