Punjab Govt Disburses Rs 48.26 Crore in Crop Damage Relief to Flood-Affected Farmers

In a significant move aimed at supporting farmers affected by crop damage due to recent floods, the Punjab government has disbursed a total of Rs 48.26 crore in relief funds as of September 11, 2023. The announcement was made by Punjab's Minister for Disaster Management, Brahm Shankar Jimpa.

In an effort to address the distress faced by farmers, the state government has introduced an unprecedented compensation scheme, providing Rs 6,800 per acre for the damage incurred by paddy saplings. This initiative underscores the government's commitment to mitigating the challenges faced by the agricultural community.

Jimpa revealed that an advance relief of Rs 33.50 crore was swiftly released in July when reports of flood risks began to emerge. Subsequently, additional relief funds have been disbursed to affected districts in a timely manner.

The compensation process is being meticulously carried out based on girdawari reports, ensuring that the funds reach those who have suffered crop damage. According to the data received from various districts, a sum of Rs 25.22 crore has been deposited into the bank accounts of farmers in Patiala district, reflecting the government's dedication to assisting farmers in the region. Additionally, Rs 7.35 crore has been allocated to the farmers of Sangrur district, and Rs 5.09 crore has been distributed to the affected farmers in Ferozepur.
