Punjab Agriculture Flourishes, Over 10,000 Applications Flood in for AIF Scheme

The Horticulture Minister's announcement entails a 3% interest subsidy on term loans for eligible activities through the AIF scheme. The subsidy is available for up to seven years, with a maximum interest rate limited to 9%.

Punjab's agricultural community and enterprising agri-entrepreneurs have once again showcased their resilience by adopting the Agriculture Infrastructure Fund (AIF) Scheme. This initiative aims to boost post-harvest management projects and community farming assets.

Impressively, the state has achieved an overwhelming response, with over 10,000 applications submitted under the scheme.

Horticulture Minister S. Chetan shared the latest statistics, revealing that Punjab has received a substantial total of 10,509 applications as of September 18. Among these, an impressive 6,042 applications have already been approved, and 5,166 beneficiaries have received disbursements.

Furthermore, Punjab continues to stand out as the second-highest state in terms of approved applications under the scheme. Remarkably, three districts within the state have exceeded the 1,000-application mark, including Bathinda with 1,286 applications, Fazilka with 1,158, and Patiala with 1,087.

Chetan Singh Jauramajra highlighted the attractive features of the AIF scheme, which offers a 3% interest subsidy for up to seven years on term loans for eligible activities. The maximum interest rate is capped at 9%, providing substantial financial relief to beneficiaries. They can avail this benefit for amounts of up to Rs. 2 crores, and each beneficiary has the flexibility to establish up to 25 projects at different locations.

Eligible projects encompass a wide range of agricultural infrastructure, including storage facilities like warehouses, silos, cold stores, and more. Primary processing centers such as Atta Chakki, Dal Mill, and Spice Processing units are also covered. Sorting and grading units, ripening chambers, packhouses, farm machinery, and various other essential ventures fall under the scheme's purview. Moreover, farmer groups can establish projects such as mushroom farming, aeroponics, hydroponics, polyhouses, and greenhouses.

In addition, under the AIF scheme, eligible projects can incorporate the installation of solar panels and the deployment of solar pumps.
