PM Narendra Modi Ensures Farmers with "Modi's Guarantee" of Over Rs 6.5 Lakh Crore Annual Support

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the 17th Indian Cooperative Congress in New Delhi, reaffirming the government's unwavering commitment to supporting the agricultural community and promoting their economic growth. He highlighted that the government's annual expenditure of over 6.5 lakh crore is dedicated to bolstering the agriculture sector and ensuring the welfare of farmers across India.

The Prime Minister emphasized the government's substantial financial assistance, with an annual allocation exceeding 6.5 lakh crore, aimed at safeguarding the well-being and fostering the development of farmers.

The Prime Minister emphasized the significance of the government's actions and initiatives in improving the lives of farmers, rather than just making lofty commitments.

Drawing a comparison with the situation before 2014, PM Modi highlighted how small and medium farmers were deprived of government benefits, with meager aid going to middlemen. However, he pointed out that significant changes have occurred in the past nine years due to policy shifts and decisive actions taken by the government.

The government's dedication to farmers' welfare is not limited to financial assistance alone. In parallel, the government has revised the Crop Residue Management guidelines, enabling efficient ex-situ management of paddy straw generated in the States of Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Delhi. Techno-commercial pilot projects for Paddy Straw Supply Chain will be established under bilateral agreements between Beneficiaries/Aggregators such as Farmers, rural entrepreneurs, Cooperative Societies of Farmers, Farmers Producer Organizations (FPOs), and Panchayats.

The outcomes of these interventions are promising: the initiative will supplement the efforts of paddy straw management through in-situ options, collecting 1.5 million metric tonnes of surplus paddy straw that would otherwise have been burnt in fields. About 333 biomass collection depots will be built in the States of Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh, considerably reducing air pollution caused by stubble burning and generating employment opportunities of about 9,00,000 man-days. The establishment of a supply chain will encourage investments in Biomass to biofuel and energy sectors.
