PM Modi Boosts Farmers' Income with MSP Hike and Pledges Sustainable Energy Development
The increase in MSP for rabi crops and the Green Energy Corridor Phase-II project reflect the government's dedication to addressing critical issues related to agriculture and energy while fostering economic growth and job creation.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced on Wednesday that the government's decision to increase the minimum support price (MSP) for rabi crops will have a positive impact on farmers' income and contribute to strengthening the nation's food security. The announcement came following a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), chaired by Prime Minister Modi.
Speaking on the matter, Prime Minister Modi highlighted the significance of this decision, particularly during the festive season, for the benefit of small and economically disadvantaged farmers. This move is expected to provide much-needed support to the agricultural community, which forms the backbone of India's economy.
Following the CCEA meeting, Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur addressed the media and disclosed that the committee had given its approval for an increase in the MSP for all mandated rabi crops during the 2024-25 marketing season. The move is seen as a crucial step to ensure that farmers receive fair compensation for their produce, ultimately enhancing their livelihoods.
In addition to the MSP hike, the Cabinet also granted approval for the Green Energy Corridor (GEC) Phase-II, which encompasses the development of an inter-state transmission system to support a 13 GW renewable energy project in Ladakh. Prime Minister Modi emphasized that this groundbreaking project exemplifies India's commitment to sustainable energy practices and a reduction in the nation's carbon footprint.
