The Indian government is launching an extensive campaign to ensure that every eligible farmer benefits from the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme.

The PM-KISAN initiative provides financial support to land-owning farmers across the country. However, some farmers have felt excluded from the scheme due to issues with their land records or e-KYC verification.

In response, the government is proactively taking steps to verify and digitally enroll farmers, addressing the concerns of those who were initially left out.

One key initiative is the launch of the PM-KISAN Mobile App, which allows farmers to register digitally and helps states create comprehensive farmer registries. Farmers will need to consent to the registration process through e-sign (Aadhaar-based) and e-KYC verification through facial recognition or OTP (One-Time Password) methods. There are also plans to enable fingerprint-based (biometric) authentication through the app.

Once registered, these farmers will be able to access a variety of benefits, such as crop loans, Kisan Credit Cards (KCC), and procurement of agricultural produce at Minimum Support Prices (MSP).

According to reports, there is a gap between the number of land-owning farmers in India and the current PM-KISAN database. The country has around 9.5 crore land-owning farmers, but the PM-KISAN database currently stands at 8.75 crore. This gap suggests that there are still many eligible farmers who are not yet benefiting from the scheme.

In recent reports, it was highlighted that the Central government managed to achieve substantial savings of ₹10,000 crore over the past year through the PM-KISAN scheme. These savings primarily resulted from the removal of roughly 1.72 crore beneficiaries who were found to be ineligible.

The government's efforts to expand the reach of the PM-KISAN scheme is a major move. By covering more eligible farmers, the scheme can help to improve their financial security and boost the agricultural sector.
