PepsiCo, the renowned FMCG giant, has announced a groundbreaking partnership with agricultural cloud company Cropin to introduce a revolutionary crop intelligence platform. The platform, which leverages mobile app-compatible dashboards, aims to monitor potato yields and provide valuable insights to farmers. This innovative initiative is part of PepsiCo's precision agriculture model, with the pilot phase commencing at demo farms located in Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh, India.

Potato farmers in North India often face significant challenges such as blight disease and ground frost, which can cause extensive damage to crops. Additionally, due to small landholdings and limited resources, many farmers struggle to optimize the use of crucial inputs like water, fertilizers, and pesticides. To address these issues, PepsiCo and Cropin have developed a user-friendly platform that offers comprehensive solutions for resource management and pesticide evaluation.

The crop intelligence platform harnesses the power of satellite imagery and remote sensing data to support farmers throughout the entire crop cycle. By utilizing this cutting-edge technology, farmers can access up to 10-day advance forecasts and monitor the health of their crops. The platform also provides timely warnings about potential diseases, enabling farmers to take proactive measures and minimize yield losses.

Anukool Joshi, the Director of Agro at PepsiCo India, highlighted the significance of this initiative, stating that it empowers PepsiCo farmers with real-time tracking of crop health to maximize yields and enhance crop quality. By collaborating with Cropin, PepsiCo aims to reduce risks to its business and enhance operational efficiency by leveraging plot-level predictive intelligence solutions.

Cropin CEO Krishna Kumar emphasized the platform's potential in revolutionizing the agricultural sector, enabling farmers to make informed decisions and improve their overall productivity. PepsiCo, widely known for its Lay's chips brand, works with farmers across 14 states in India to source its entire potato requirement, emphasizing the company's commitment to supporting local agriculture.

The newly launched crop intelligence platform offers two distinct platforms for farmers, namely Cropin Grow and Plot Risk. These platforms enable efficient data management and provide essential crop intelligence for farmers to make informed decisions.
