Odisha's Premium Coverage Boosts Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana Enrolment
To extend insurance coverage to more farmers and cultivated areas, the state government will fund the premium share for small and marginal farmers. This ensures equitable access to scheme benefits.
According to reports, farmers' participation in the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) has doubled this year, with the state government covering the premium cost.
According to analysis, it was found that in 2022 kharif season, 11,65,131 farmers had enrolled, now exceeding 23.50 lakh.
Cooperation Minister Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak emphasized that making crop insurance free for small and marginal farmers has fueled this surge. He noted strong farmer acceptance and participation. He also highlighted farmer enthusiasm for the initiative and their active involvement.

Nayak highlighted the earlier limited enrolment of 10-11 lakh farmers out of 50 lakh agricultural households and inadequate area coverage. Out of 45 lakh cultivated hectares, merely 10 lakh hectares were insured. This signifies the need for more comprehensive outreach and enhanced coverage within the agricultural landscape.
