Odisha's government is gearing up for a big Rabi season in 2023-24. They're planning to cultivate 28.14 lakh hectares of different crops, with a focus on pulses, oilseeds, vegetables, condiments, and sugarcane. The goals include producing 19.39 lakh tons of food grains, 7.53 lakh tons of pulses, and 4.18 lakh tons of oilseeds.

During the conference, Agriculture Minister Ranendra Pratap Swain emphasized how Odisha's shift to becoming a rice surplus state was a result of innovative government initiatives. He underlined the significance of diversifying crops, integrating farming practices, managing rice fallow periods, and promoting the cultivation of valuable crops such as pulses, oilseeds, and vegetables to tackle climate change and boost farmers' earnings.

Chief Secretary Pradeep Kumar Jena stressed climate-smart agriculture and diversifying crops to tackle climate change. The government is also investing in water conservation and irrigation.

Development Commissioner Anu Garg highlighted the government's substantial investments in water conservation and irrigation systems.

Government officials in various agricultural and administrative roles shared their insights at the conference. Individuals from both the agricultural and administrative realms in the state, such as Arabinda Kumar Padhi, who serves as the Principal Secretary for the Agriculture and Farmers Empowerment department, ARD department, and Suresh Kumar Vashishth, who holds the position of Principal Secretary for the Fisheries along with Premchandra Chaudhary, who serves as the Director of Agriculture and Food Production, and Rohit Kumar Lenka, Director of Horticulture, all actively participated in the conference, sharing their valuable insights and contributions.
