The Noida Authority has cancelled plans to allot a group housing plot in Sector 146 to real estate developers. Instead, it will assign the land to farmers for their rehabilitation. The farmers provided their land for the development of the city, so the Noida Authority believes they deserve rehabilitation under the law. The farmers requested residential plots, but the authority couldn't provide them due to insufficient land. The land department will now examine farmers' applications and determine their eligibility for residential plots, which will be allocated according to established procedures.

Under land allotment rules, a farmer is entitled to 5% of the total land acquired for residential use. Hundreds of farmers claim they have not received plots for their use. The authority allocates 5% of residential plots to farmers either in their village or within 3km. If the land is unavailable in the village or within a 3km radius, the plot will be given to a nearby village. Plots will not be allocated to farmers who have seized government land.

The farmers demanded that the authority not assign the remaining housing land to group housing until their plots are provided. Under pressure from the farmers, the authority has agreed to allocate this land to farmers according to their policy. The land department has 225 pending applications for 5% residential plots, and many farmers have yet to submit applications.

CEO of the Noida Authority, Ritu Maheshwari, said that the authority will examine the eligibility of the 225 applications from farmers before addressing the cases of remaining farmers who haven't submitted applications. The decision was made in recognition of the farmers' contributions to the development of the city. They provided their land for the betterment of the area and the Authority is committed to providing rehabilitation to the farmers as per the law.

This decision could potentially put a damper on developers' plans for group housing, as the allotted land was supposed to be used for this purpose. However, the Authority's decision to prioritize the welfare of farmers, who were instrumental in the city's growth, is commendable. Providing residential plots to farmers who have contributed to the city's growth is a step in the right direction and is in accordance with the law.
