NCRTC Launches Farmer Training Program for Modern Agriculture Techniques

To empower local farmers with advanced agricultural practices, the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) has launched a skill development program in Ghaziabad and Meerut. The initiative aims to train farmers in modern, high-yield farming techniques, with a special focus on hydroponics technology. Simultaneously, a state-of-the-art farming demonstration centre is being established at the RRTS depot in Duhai to showcase and educate farmers on these innovative methods.

Over the next three months, the NCRTC plans to conduct more than 100 training sessions, benefiting at least 1,500 farmers from nearly 50 villages in the region. The program seeks to introduce farmers to the advantages of hydroponics, a soil-less cultivation method that has shown promise in increasing crop yields while conserving resources.

Hydroponics, as explained by experts, involves growing plants without traditional soil. Instead, plants are cultivated in a nutrient-rich water solution. This solution serves as a vital source of essential nutrients required for plant growth, and the roots are supported using materials like perlite, coconut coir, or other inert mediums.

The training program will focus on imparting knowledge about hydroponics, offering farmers practical insights into its application. Hydroponic systems allow for precise control over various environmental factors influencing plant growth. Plants directly absorb the necessary nutrients from the water by submerging or periodically flooding the roots with the nutrient solution. This level of control extends to managing the pH of the solution, as well as monitoring water and oxygen levels, ensuring optimal conditions for plant development.

One of the notable advantages of hydroponics is the acceleration of plant growth. By eliminating the dependency on soil, plants can receive nutrients more efficiently, resulting in faster and healthier growth. This method also proves to be highly water-efficient, addressing concerns related to water scarcity in agriculture. Furthermore, hydroponics opens up possibilities for cultivating crops in regions where traditional soil-based farming faces challenges.

To complement the training initiative, the NCRTC is actively working on establishing a modern farming demonstration centre at the RRTS depot in Duhai.
