Union Minister Shri Tomar welcomed everyone to the SCO meeting and emphasized the importance of promoting multilateral relations in politics, security, economy, and people-to-people interactions.

On May 12th, the 8th meeting of Agriculture Ministers from member countries of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) was held via video conferencing. The meeting was chaired by India's Union Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister, Narendra Singh Tomar, and attended by representatives from Russia, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, China, Pakistan, and India.

During the meeting, under India's chairmanship, the member countries of the SCO adopted the Smart Agriculture project. Shri Tomar expressed his satisfaction with the smart agriculture action plan and the innovative agricultural initiative, emphasizing that India's Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, places great importance on promoting technology-based overall agricultural development in the country. India has taken several concrete steps in this direction to promote smart agriculture.

Union Minister Shri Tomar welcomed everyone to the SCO meeting and emphasized the importance of promoting multilateral relations in politics, security, economy, and people-to-people interactions. He expressed pleasure and pride in organizing a meeting of SCO Agriculture Ministers to discuss enhancing cooperation in food security and nutrition, particularly in the current situation.

Tomar emphasized the importance of establishing strong communication and collaboration between nations to ensure the smooth operation of the food supply chain and maintain adequate levels of food and nutrition security in current circumstances.

According to Shri Tomar, the Indian government prioritizes the welfare of farmers and the development of the agriculture sector and boasts unique public distribution and price support systems. He credits agricultural research with solving food security issues, boosting farmer and worker incomes, and sustaining the population.

Union Minister Shri Tomar highlighted the Prime Minister Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme, which provides Rs.6,000 per year to crores of farmers across India, with over Rs. 2.40 lakh crore already deposited in their bank accounts. The scheme also focuses on providing concessional institutional credit and Kisan Credit Cards to farmers. India, under Prime Minister Shri Modi's leadership, is also promoting sustainable and organic farming to improve productivity, food security, and soil health.

Officials from the SCO Secretariat, the Ministry of Farmers Welfare, and high-ranking representatives from SCO member countries attended the event focused on Central Agriculture.
