NABARD Launches Mobile App for Tripura Farmers, Seminar Boosts Tech in Agriculture for Rural Development
NABARD has led a transformative seminar in Agartala, Tripura, spotlighting the integration of technology in agriculture for rural development. The event featured discussions on innovation, climate resilience, and mobile app launch.
The National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) held a seminar in Agartala, Tripura, focused on boosting technology to transform the state's agricultural and rural terrain. The event brought together experts, government officials, bankers, students, and representatives from various organizations involved in this critical sector.
The seminar aimed to shed light on several key areas including the utilization of technology in agriculture where experts explored how innovative solutions like drones, automation, and sensor technology can address challenges and improve efficiency. Discussions also centered on the immense entrepreneurial potential in the sector and ways to foster a vibrant startup ecosystem.
Addressing the growing threat of climate change, the seminar explored strategies for developing climate-resistant agricultural practices. Participants brainstormed ways to leverage technology and frugal innovation to boost rural businesses, particularly in handloom and handicrafts—the event aimed to inspire young people to embrace self-employment opportunities in the agriculture and rural development sector.

Several distinguished guests shared their valuable insights, Apurba Roy, IAS, Secretary of Tripura's Finance and Agriculture Department commended NABARD for organizing the seminar and emphasized the need for technological advancements to overcome challenges and unlock the sector's potential.
Dr. Jitendra Kumar, MD of BIRAC discussed the use of technology for sustainable agriculture and entrepreneurship, highlighting BIRAC's initiatives and support programs. Dr. Kishore Goswami, Professor at IIT-Kharagpur stressed the importance of value addition in agriculture, particularly in Tripura, as a key driver of development. Dr. Utpal Bora, Professor at IIT Guwahati focused on climate change challenges and solutions for building resilient agriculture in the region. Dr. Bibhuti Ranjan Bhattacharjee advocated for leveraging technology and frugal innovation to promote rural enterprises, especially in handloom and handicrafts.
A significant highlight of the event was the launch of a mobile application. Developed with NABARD's financial assistance, the app empowers Tripura's farmers and consumers by providing real-time information on agricultural inputs and market prices across the state. This informative seminar catalyzed exploring the power of technology in transforming Tripura's agricultural and rural sectors.
