MIDH Adds Area of 2.5 Lakh Hectares Under Protected Cultivation For Horticulture Crops

Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Narendra Singh Tomar informed a 2.51 lakh hectares additional area has been covered under protected cultivation since the inception of the Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture scheme. It includes greenhouse structures for horticulture promotion.

On Friday, Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Narendra Singh Tomar informed a 2.51 lakh hectares additional area has been covered under protected cultivation since the inception of the Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture scheme i.e., from 2014-15 to 2021-22. It includes greenhouse structures for horticulture promotion. He added that a total expenditure of Rs.2963.91 crores has been reported by the states.

Tomar said that” The beneficiary data is available with the states because the Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture scheme is being implemented by the State Governments.

In a statement at the table of the Rajya Sabha in reply to a question on promoting greenhouse farming agriculture minister said, “the Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare is executing the MIDH Centrally sponsored scheme in all states and union territories for the full development of horticulture in the country. Under MIDH, assistance is provided for the promotion of protected cultivation including greenhouse through various interventions.”
