Mega Oil Palm Plantation Drive Enriches India's Edible Oils Landscape, Organized in 11 States

The scheme extends various incentives to farmers, encompassing quality planting material, financial support for crop maintenance and intercropping. An assured market with guaranteed prices for their produce further empowers farmers to participate in the initiative.

In a concerted effort to bolster domestic edible oil production and empower farmers, several State Governments in collaboration with Oil Palm processing companies have organized a monumental 'Mega Oil Palm Plantation Drive' spanning from July 25, 2023, to the present day.

Over 3500 hectares of land have been dedicated to Oil Palm Plantation during this initiative, involving the participation of approximately 7000 farmers across 49 districts in 11 states.

Under the aegis of the National Mission on Edible Oils – Oil Palm, this initiative holds the promise of rendering India self-reliant in edible oil production, aligning with the vision of 'Atma-Nirbhar Bharat'. Moreover, this ambitious endeavour is anticipated to contribute significantly to the goal of expanding oil palm cultivation over an additional 6.5 lakh hectares by 2025-26.

The states at the forefront of this effort include Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Goa, Karnataka, Mizoram, Nagaland, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, and Tripura. Distinguished Oil Palm Processing companies, namely Patanjali Food Pvt. Ltd., Godrej Agrovet, and 3F, have played a pivotal role in this drive. Regional players like KE Cultivation and NavBharat also joined forces. The Mega Oil Palm Plantation Drive concluded on August 12, 2023, witnessing an impressive reach across 77 villages in 49 districts of the aforementioned states.

This monumental effort involved the planting of more than 5.00 lakh oil palm saplings, covering approximately 3500 hectares. Furthermore, as part of this drive, these companies undertook comprehensive technical training seminars to empower farmers with knowledge about oil palm cultivation, thereby elevating productivity and sustainability.

Distinguished personalities including senior political leaders, department officials, and gram panchayat members graced various events hosted under the Pan-India Mega Oil Palm Plantation Drive.

In an impactful stride towards enhancing domestic edible oil production, a remarkable Mega Oil Palm Plantation Drive was witnessed across India's landscape. The initiative, spanning from July 25 to the present day, led by various State Governments and Oil Palm processing companies, showcased its impact in Bidar district of Karnataka on August 3rd. The inauguration of this monumental effort was graced by Shri Ratan Lal Nath, Hon’ble Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Govt. of Tripura, in Jirania Agril district of Tripura. Noteworthy participation on August 8th included Hon’ble CM Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, Hon’ble Agri Minister Shri Atul Bora, and Swami Ramdev Ji in the Mega Oil Palm Plantation Drive in Tinisukia district, Assam.

This Mega Oil Palm Plantation Drive resonates as a transformative endeavour, propelling India's stride towards agricultural self-sufficiency while bolstering the economic prosperity of farmers across the nation.
