Kirloskar Systems announced on December 27 that Manasi Tata, the late Vikram Kirloskar's daughter, has been appointed to the board of directors of the company's joint venture firms with immediate effect.
The appointment follows the unexpected death of Vikram Kirloskar, the fourth generation of the Kirloskar family. Geetanjali, his wife, has already joined the company as Chairman and MD.
Manasi will take over as Director of Toyota Industries Engine India Pvt. Ltd. (TIEI), Kirloskar Toyota Textile Machinery Pvt. Ltd. (KTTM), Toyota Material Handling India Pvt. Ltd. (TMHIN), and Denso Kirloskar Industries Pvt. Ltd. (DNKI) with immediate effect, according to the company.
Manasi Tata, the late businessman's only daughter, is a fifth-generation scion of the Kirloskar empire and a graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design in the United States. She has received training in Toyota manufacturing processes as well as Japanese work culture. The fifth-generation Kirloskar scion is passionate about art, and her NGO, "Caring with Colour," works with government schools in three Karnataka districts.
"Deeply intertwined with environmental, social, and governance (ESG) concerns, Ms. Manasi Tata is truly committed to carrying on her father's vision and dream, contributing to the achievement of national goals, and remains committed to maintaining the strength of partnership with various stakeholders, and the relationships that have grown stronger over the years," KSPL said in a statement.
Toyota Motor Corporation entered India in 1997 through a joint venture with the Kirloskar group. Toyota Motor owns 89% of the JV, while the Kirloskar group, based in Bidadi, Karnataka, owns the rest.
Vikram S Kirloskar died on November 30, 2022, at the age of 64. Vikram, the face of Toyota in India, died of a massive heart attack. Vikram was a fourth-generation scion of the illustrious Kirloskar family, whose ancestors date back to 1888. Vikram practically established the automobile manufacturing industry in Karnataka with TKM. The government recognized his efforts and bestowed upon him the "Suvarna Karnataka" award. He created at least 25 greenfield sites during his lifetime.
In 2019, Manasi married Neville Tata, Noel Tata's son. Noel Tata is Ratan Tata's half-brother from his father's side, and he is also a shareholder in the Tata group. Separately, the board of Tata Medical Centre Trust, a subsidiary of Tata Group, onboarded Noel Tata's three children — Leah, Neville, and Maya — in November to groom them for larger roles in the company.
