Ashok Gade, a banana farmer from the Yawal taluka in the Jalgaon district, has got a patent from the Centre for creating banana-based biscuits.

Along with selling his biscuits in Maharashtra, he also exports his goods to Orissa, West Bengal, and other states.

Gade said that he and his wife Kusum started their biscuit-making business in 2015. "Their state is the major producer of bananas," he continued. Farmers frequently get a bad deal because of fluctuating prices.

He added that because bananas have a shorter shelf life, a lot of product is wasted. These circumstances, therefore, drove him to start creating banana-based biscuits.

He claimed that "they completely prioritize the quality of their products and avoid using any chemicals."

At Yawal, Gade also operates a biscuit-making facility. From the district headquarters in Jalgaon, this unit is around 45 km away. He has worked with 10 other people.

Gade presents a significant example for rural farmers and local business owners to emerge and generate income, according to Ashok Hingmire, an expert in Intellectual Property (IP) and copyright.

Additionally, he stated that "patent is highly important. Patenting not only protects IP rights but also improves and boosts product sales and marketing.

He continued, "Maharashtra has a number of distinctive products that make a strong patenting."
