Ludhiana's ICAR-ATARI Organizes Pioneering Review Workshop for Crop Residue Management Project

The ICAR-Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute, Zone-I, Ludhiana, and Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana, recently united to organize an extensive evaluation conference for the crucial Crop Residue Management (CRM) project. This event brought together representatives from all 60 Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) implementing CRM across Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, and Uttar Pradesh.

Dr. Inderjeet Singh, Vice Chancellor of Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Science University, Ludhiana, graced the inaugural session as the Chief Guest. During his address, Dr. Singh highlighted the importance of groundbreaking research activities, aimed at standardizing the utilization of paddy straw as a sustainable alternative to traditional dry fodder sources for livestock.

He further highlighted the socio-economic impact of KVK-led initiatives in spreading knowledge and promoting the adoption of various crop residue management methods.

In the session, Dr. Ranjay Kumar Singh, ADG (Agril. Extn.) at ICAR, emphasized the crucial need for high-quality work and evidence-based reporting to enhance the credibility and reputation of KVKs.

Dr. Parvender Sheoran, the Director of ICAR-ATARI, Ludhiana, provided an overview of the accomplishments of the CRM project, executed by KVKs across four states from 2018-19 to 2022-23.

Dr. Parvender also outlined forthcoming awareness programs such as the 'Parali Prabandhan Chetna Yatra' and 'Technology Sensitisation-cum-Awareness Pakhwara,' designed to raise awareness about residue management. These initiatives are poised to make a substantial impact on sustainable agricultural practices in the region.
