The state government has recently launched a new initiative that involves making approximately 131 value-added agricultural products, such as rice, rice flakes, rice powder, jam, and coconut oil, available for purchase on various e-commerce platforms. The main objective of this move is to enhance the global accessibility of these commodities.

The Keralagro brand includes a variety of products that are easily accessible via big e-commerce platforms such as Amazon and Flipkart. These items are grown and processed on 64 government-owned farms spread around the state. P Prasad, Minister of Agriculture, officially launched the brand and its associated initiative at an event in Kochi.

According to the minister, the quality and uniqueness of their products justifies the increased visibility and availability. The program intends to make value-added food items, fertilizers, and seeds more affordable to customers worldwide.

According to him, it is a significant measure towards guaranteeing profits for farmers. Additionally, the agricultural department aims to broaden this effort by incorporating cooperative societies, groups, and individuals under the Keralagro label. “This is only the beginning. We aim to make at least 1,000 products from the brand available on e-commerce platforms. It also includes products with Geographical Indicator Tags,” he said.

According to him, the department has instructed each Krishi Bhavan in the state to produce at least one value-added product and contribute to the brand expansion in stages. The government's efforts to boost the market for agricultural products have led to the concept of offering these value-added goods on e-commerce platforms.

When agricultural products are processed into value-added commodities, it leads to an increase in demand, which in turn helps farmers to earn more profit. Additionally, a team of individuals received training on how to effectively package these items with the assistance of the Indian Institute of Packaging in Mumbai.

"Based on the geographical location and prevailing weather conditions, the agricultural products in our state vary. This initiative aims to increase the global recognition of specific products such as Pokkali rice, rice products, and fruits and vegetables unique to the Nelliampathy region," said the minister.

Previously, the value-added commodities that were manufactured on farms in Kerala were exclusively sold in government stalls and exhibitions. However, on November 1, 2022, the products from Nelliampathy farms in Palakkad became available on Amazon for the first time. During the event, the minister also revealed the brand's QR code.
