KITS-W Innovates First Driverless Automated Tractor
The ploughing machine, according to Niranjan Reddy, can be controlled by an Android application similar to a computer game.
The Department of Computer Science and Engineering at Kakatiya Institute of Technology & Science, Warangal (KITS-W) has developed a farmer-friendly driverless automated tractor. According to institute principal Prof K Ashoka Reddy, the vehicle's fourth trial run was completed successfully on campus.
Captain V Lakshmikantha Rao, a former member of the Rajya Sabha and the head of KITS Warangal's governing body, claimed that the Department of Science and Technology's SEED division had approved a significant research project titled "Automation of farming tools for smart farming using Android application (a gaming approach)" for the Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE).
Md. Sharfuddin Waseem, an assistant professor in the KITS-W CSE Department, is the project's principal investigator. Prof. P. Niranjan Reddy, the department's head, is a co-investigator, and Dr. S. Narsimha Reddy, an associate professor, and the department's head served as the mentor (networks). KITS-W was granted a total of Rs 40 lakh to carry out the project.
Ashoka Reddy, stated to TINE, that the driverless automated tractor will aid farmers in cultivating their land. According to him, it would be affordable and boost farmers' income. The farmer can use the remote-controlled tractor to plough small fields, adding that the project's objective is to reduce human labor requirements for farming.
The ploughing machine, according to Niranjan Reddy, can be controlled by an Android application similar to a computer game. "We have embedded different kinds of sensors to detect proximity, temperature, and soil moisture to gather the data from the live field and act according to the situation. The machine detects obstacles using its proximity sensor," he explained.
Md Waseem stated that the project is currently in the implementation phase and that an onsite location in the college has been designated for experimentation.
