According to recent reports, 'Banarasi paan' and 'langda mango' from Varanasi have been granted membership to the Geographical Indication (GI) club, which will provide them with recognition for their place of origin.

On March 31st, the GI Registry in Chennai granted tags to two more products from the region: Ramnagar Bhanta (an eggplant variety) and Chandausi's adamchini chawal (a type of rice).

Kashi has yet again demonstrated its expertise in the realm of Geographical Indications (GI) by receiving the GI label for four new products, which brings the overall tally of GI products to 22 in the Kashi area and 45 in Uttar Pradesh.

Dr. Rajinikanth, a distinguished expert in Geographical Indications, announced on Monday that eleven products from Uttar Pradesh have been granted GI tags this year. This achievement was made possible with the assistance of NABARD UP and the state government. Seven of these products are included in the One District One Product (ODOP) scheme, while the remaining four are related to agriculture and horticulture from the Kashi region.

Among the newly granted GI tags are Banarasi Langda Mango (GI Registration No. 716), Ramnagar Bhanta- Brinjal (GI Registration No. 717), Banarasi Paan (GI Registration No. 730), and Adamchini Rice (GI Registration No. 715). As a result of this recognition, Banarasi Langra will soon be available in the international market under the GI tag.

According to him, more than 2 million individuals are engaged in the trade of four specific products, generating an annual business of around Rs 25,500 crore. He mentioned that the government has submitted applications for obtaining Geographical Indication (GI) tags for 20 products, out of which only 11 products have been granted the GI status.

NABARD's AGM, Anuj Kumar Singh, extended congratulations to the farmers, producers, FPOs, and self-help groups who are associated with the production of GI products. He also mentioned that NABARD has plans to introduce several schemes in the future to further promote these GI products.

Anuj Kumar Singh, the AGM of NABARD, has announced a collaboration between the government and several agricultural entities, including Jaya Seeds Company Limited, Kashi Vishwanath Farms Company, Ishani Agro Producer Company Limited, Namami Gange Farmers Producer Company Limited, and the Horticulture Department of Varanasi.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's persistent efforts to achieve global recognition for indigenous products have yielded positive results.
