Karnataka: Yadgir Farmers Get Relief, Get Seven Hours of Uninterrupted Power Supply to Farm Pump Set
Farmers in Yadgir district, Karnataka, are now receiving uninterrupted power supply to farm pump sets for seven hours a day, in two-time slots, amid a severe drought. This is a much-needed relief to farmers who rely heavily on irrigation to grow their crops.
Farmers in Yadgir district, Karnataka, are now receiving uninterrupted power supply to farm pump sets for seven hours a day, in two-time slots: 5 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. This decision comes as a much-needed relief to farmers who are grappling with a severe drought.
Two of the six taluks in Yadgir district have been declared severely drought-hit, while the remaining four taluks are considered moderately drought-hit. Farmers in the district rely heavily on irrigation to grow their crops, and the inconsistent power supply to farm pump sets was posing a major challenge to them.
Farmers had been protesting and demanding uninterrupted power supply to farm pump sets for several weeks. Their collective efforts finally paid off, as the State government and Gulbarga Electricity Company (GESCOM) officials stepped in to provide a solution.

Raghavendra, Executive Engineer of GESCOM, said that the seven-hour uninterrupted power supply to farm pump sets will allow farmers to effectively irrigate their crops. This is a crucial step in helping farmers protect their standing crops and prevent potential crop losses due to the drought.
Farmers have appreciated GESCOM's decision and expressed their gratitude for the crucial support.
Channappa Anegundi, a prominent farmers' leader, said that farmers are hopeful that they will be able to achieve a fruitful harvest, even in these challenging drought conditions.

In addition to providing uninterrupted power supply to farm pump sets, the State government and district administration have also taken other measures to help farmers cope with the drought. These measures include providing financial assistance to drought-affected farmers, distributing fodder for livestock, and undertaking water conservation measures.
The government must continue to work with farmers to develop and implement sustainable solutions that can help them mitigate the impact of droughts in the future.
