Jharkhand Launches 'A-HELP' Program to Enhance Livestock Health and Empower Women

Jharkhand empowers women with the 'A-HELP' Program launched by India's Animal Husbandry Department. The program, promoting women as Accredited Agents for disease control and livestock insurance, attracted over 500 participants, including farmers and Pashu Sakhis.

In a promising move, the Government of India has introduced the 'A-HELP' initiative (Accredited Agent for Health and Extension of Livestock Production) in Jharkhand. This program seeks to empower women and elevate livestock health within the region.

A-HELP will involve women as accredited agents, entrusted with providing primary health services to livestock owners and serving as vital resources and primary service providers. This bridging role between local veterinary institutions and livestock owners will enhance accessibility to veterinary services.

The program's launch featured the presence of Badal Patralekh, Minister of Agriculture, Animal Husbandry & Co-operative, Government of Jharkhand, and Alka Upadhyaya, Secretary of the Department of Animal Husbandry & Dairying, Government of India.

Patralekh highlighted the essential role of women in Jharkhand's livestock sector development and emphasized that the A-HELP program would empower women and enhance the region's socio-economic landscape.

Upadhyaya commended the State Government for its flourishing livestock sector and noted that A-HELP would play a pivotal role in its comprehensive advancement. She added that this new cadre of community-based functionaries would offer primary health services and serve as critical resources and primary service providers.

During the launch event, A-HELP Kits were distributed to Pashu Sakhis, community animal health workers. The event witnessed significant participation, with over 500 attendees, including forward-thinking farmers and Pashu Sakhis.

The introduction of the A-HELP program marks a notable stride in promoting livestock health, extension services, and the empowerment of women in Jharkhand. This initiative is expected to lead to improved livestock productivity and rural development within the region.
